Some homeowners install outdoor lighting for several reasons. First, outdoor lighting are installed to increase security and safety. Driveway lights and porch lights deter burglars who prefer dark alleys and driveways. Outdoor lighting can also help in improving the aesthetic appeal of a house and help homeowners save on electricity costs by installing LED paver lights.

Driveway light Aside from deterring burglars, this type of outdoor light serves as a good addition when it comes to increasing the resale value of your house. It can also be used to make outdoor parties possible, like a barbeque party. Driveway lights can be low voltage, high voltage, or solar light. Among the three types of driveway light, solar light is the cheapest and most environment-friendly.

Paver Light Compared with driveway lights in posts, paver lights are mounted to the ground. It can be installed on walkways, driveways, patios, and sometimes stairs. Homeowners who are worried about over lighting an area of their backyard can install paver lights on the floor. Instead of producing light from above, paver lights emit light from underneath.

Step Light Also known as stair lights, step lights are used on stairs so they are easily seen in the dark. They can be mounted or simply attached on each step of the stairs. Take note that these lights should be attached on the part of the step which is less likely to be stepped on. If you are on a tight budget and you need to install step lights on a long stair, you can use LED paver lights which are more affordable.

String Light This type of light is commonly used to decorate Christmas trees and garden bushes.

Lantern string lights can also be used as backyard lighting. It can give your porch or backyard a glowing look during nighttime. String lights come in uniform or different color and various sizes and lighting styles. These lights, however, cannot be attached on steps or pavement, because the bulbs are exposed and can be easily crushed when stepped on.

Rope Light Instead of installing string lights on steps, you can use rope light. It is quite similar to string lights except that the bulbs are enclosed in a tube. String lights can also be used on railings by tucking it under the structure. Rope lights are more durable than string lights and the rope is less conspicuous. This type of outdoor lighting is available at any hardware store, but may not be as affordable as LED paver lights.
