Solar Garden Lights for Landscaping

in Light

When it comes to choosing the appropriate lighting for your garden or walkway, traditionally your only options were electric flood lights or dim lighting LED lamps.  But now, more and more gardeners are turning to stronger solar garden lights for their landscaping to save money and to be energy efficient.

Earlier versions of solar garden lights did not have LED lamps powerful enough to provide the same brightness that traditional filament bulbs would.  But now solar technology has improved such that a medium strength solar garden light can produce a light equivalent to that of a 40 watt bulb.  That makes choosing solar garden lights a smart choice.

Beyond being able to produce sufficient light to accent your landscaping, using solar garden lights cuts your costs dramatically.  Not only will your lights be using energy generated from the sun which is free, it also will reduce the costs associated with hiring an electrician to install the wiring for your lighting system.

Moreover, because solar lights do not generate the heat that filament bulbs do, they handle changes in weather much better.  Most solar garden lights are made to be weather resistant and UV protected.

There are a few different versions of solar garden lights that are used in landscaping.  The most expensive and sturdy versions of solar garden lights are solar spotlights.  These are the lamps that are used to showcase your grounds, whether it is illuminating your flower garden or a stationary statue, the cost of running an electric based spotlight can be very expensive.  But spending a couple hundred bucks up front for long lasting solar garden spotlights that run on energy from the sun saves thousands in the long run.

But say you want solar garden lights to light your driveway or walkway.  There are solar lights that do that as well.  They do not emit a light as powerful as spotlights, but they are bright enough to replace your electric path lights.

Lastly, the cheapest version of solar garden lights are basic accent lights.  These are used mainly for decorative purposes.  You can purchase multicolored lenses that you put over the LED light to change the color of your solar garden lights.  For instance, if you have a spectacular rose bush that you would like to show off as a highlight of your landscaping, purchasing accent solar garden lights with red lenses may be the perfect addition to your garden.
